Privacy Policy
Last updated: July 19, 2026
ScrollIQ helps you understand and reduce doomscrolling by turning your screen-time into a Brain Score. This policy explains what we collect, why, and the choices you have. In short: your device usage is read locally to compute your score, and only your score and summary totals leave your device.
- We read aggregate app usage and count reels on your device to calculate your Brain Score.
- We never inspect the content of any app outside the short-video feeds we count reels in.
- We sync only your score, usage totals, and profile so leaderboards and friends work.
- We do not sell your data.
Information we collect
- Account details. When you sign up with email or Google, we store your name, email address, and (for Google) your profile photo.
- Usage metrics. Daily aggregate foreground time for the apps we track, late-night usage minutes, and per-app reel/short counts. These are computed on your device and stored as daily totals.
- Your Brain Score and derived stats (streaks, weekly averages, challenge progress).
- Social graph. Friend requests, friendships, groups you create or join, and invite/referral codes you use.
- Device token. A push-notification token so we can send you alerts (for example, a score drop or a friend overtaking you).
- Product analytics. Anonymous, aggregate usage events to help us improve the app and website.
How usage tracking works
ScrollIQ uses two Android permissions you grant manually in system settings:
- Usage Access (
PACKAGE_USAGE_STATS) to read how long tracked apps ran in the foreground. We only read aggregate durations, not what you did inside any app. - Accessibility Service to count individual Reels, Shorts and Spotlight videos. It inspects the on-screen view tree only within the short-video apps it supports (Instagram, YouTube, Facebook, Snapchat). For every other app it reads only the package name to know when you have left a reel feed, and never examines that app's content.
Reel detection and score calculation happen entirely on your device. Only the resulting daily totals and score are synced.
How we use your information
- To calculate and show your Brain Score, trends, and stats.
- To power friends, groups, leaderboards, challenges, and referrals.
- To send notifications you have opted into.
- To maintain, secure, and improve the service.
Service providers
We use a small number of trusted processors to run ScrollIQ:
- Supabase — authentication and database hosting for your account, scores, and social data.
- Firebase Cloud Messaging — delivery of push notifications.
- PostHog — privacy-friendly product analytics.
- Vercel — hosting and analytics for this website.
Data sharing and visibility
Your name, avatar, and Brain Score are visible to other users on leaderboards and to friends and group members. We do not sell your personal data or share it with advertisers.
Data retention and deletion
We keep your data while your account is active. You can request deletion of your account and associated data at any time by emailing hello@scrolliq.app. You can also revoke Usage Access or the Accessibility Service in your device settings at any time, which stops all tracking.
Children
ScrollIQ is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect data from them.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the app evolves. Material changes will be reflected here with a new "Last updated" date.
